Introduction
Our History
Since Australian IVF technology was introduced to Pakistan, thousands of couples have been able to fulfill their dreams and become parents. Dr. Bruce Bellinge was inspired to bring his knowledge of human reproductive technology to Pakistan by Dr. Kiran Shahid, a specialist family physician, and her husband Shahid Shakur, a barrister and solicitor who has lived in Perth, Western Australia, since 1989. Dr. Kiran Shahid is the owner and operator of the Australian Concept Fertility Centre, Pakistan’s only state-of-the-art International IVF Center. Together, they founded the Australian Concept Fertility Centre in Karachi, Pakistan, using their own funds.
Who We Are!
How it all started!
Australian Concept Fertility Centre
In the middle of the 1970s, Dr. Bruce Bellinge was studying the early prenatal development of domestic farm animals in the UK. Little did he know that his work would make hundreds of families happy both in Australia and abroad. Dr. Bellinge, who was fascinated by the reproductive processes of larger mammals, finally transitioned into a new and revolutionary form of human reproductive technology that many people thought was unattainable. He recently pointed out that there was a great deal of mistrust regarding this novel technology when we first began using IVF.
Dr. Bellinge said:
“It was an area of science that a lot of people thought was pushing the boundaries just a little too far. The success rates were so very low back in 1981 and 1982 that people felt this was not a very viable type of technology.”Dr. Bellinge said“.

Excited by the potential of in-vitro fertilization, Dr. Bellinge and his associates persisted despite the objections. In 1982, he returned home and established Australia’s first private IVF lab at the Avro Hospital in Subiaco, Western Australia, where he treated young couples who were in dire need of their first child.
